Myths About Condos

SHARE

There are a lot of myths out there about condo living. Homebuyers can have preconceived notions about condos, including that you can hear your neighbors through the walls, must pay high condo association fees, and more. At HHHunt, we believe it’s how you live that matters, and we are busting the myths about condos so that you have the information you need during your home search.

Definition of Condominium

When we say “condo” or “condominium,” most people think of tall buildings spotted with balconies in an urban area. Some condominium complexes are indeed like that, but not all.

The official definition of a condominium is “individual ownership of a unit in a multi-unit structure.” In simple terms, condos are multiple units owned by different parties with common land ownership. There are no other requirements! You can learn more details about this home type in our Ask the Expert Series: What is a Condo? If you are curious about how condos compare to townhomes, check out our related posts: Low Maintenance Townhome and Condo Living and Condo vs. Townhome.

Myth #1 About Condos: They Are Small in Size

False! Though condos are a unique way to maximize land space, this doesn’t mean the floor plans are small. Our condo floor plans can be up to 1,936 square feet, offer multiple bedrooms and bathrooms, and offer garages. We have seen an uptick in all age groups purchasing condos, including people that are downsizing, first-home buyers and families.

Myth #2 About Condos: Stairs and Elevators

What if we told you that you could get a condo that offers first-floor living? When built on the ground level, some of our floor plans will have no significant stairs to climb or elevators to ride. Take the Bristol 1 floor plan, for example. This home offers homeowners the perks of low-maintenance living on a single floor.

Myth #3 About Condos: Shared Walls Mean Less Natural Light

False! Just because you share a wall with neighbors doesn’t mean you miss out on natural light. Several of our  offer spacious windows in the main area and bedrooms. In fact, some floor plans even offer patio doors to an outside space.

Myth #4 About Condos: Condos Include High Association Fees

False! Condos do not mean high association fees. The association fees will vary by the community, just like they do with other home types.

Myth #5 About Condos: Condos Are Only in Urban Areas

False! Condominium living has become more popular over the past several years, which means homebuilders have developed innovative condo plans in unique, amenity-rich planned communities. A few more of our condo community examples are featured below.

  • Our Wescott community, is located in the suburban area of Midlothian, VA, and offers homeowners the low-maintenance lifestyle they are looking for at an affordable price. Residents will enjoy an array of lifestyle amenities. These include a community clubhouse, open spaces, an amphitheater, yard games, a hammock garden, landscaping, and sidewalks.
  • The Pointe at Twin Hickory Condos are just 15 minutes from downtown Richmond, Virginia, and in the heart of Short Pump; the Pointe at Twin Hickory brings condo ownership to the established and renowned Twin Hickory community.
